When the Wheels Fall Off Your Bus…Stick Out Your Thumb!

We’ve all had bad days.

If you think you haven’t, you’re either in denial or you’re one of those people who believes “Every day above ground is a great day”.

Too many speakers say that, and I think it’s a bunch of crap.

Bad days happen. It’s called life.

Sometimes those days turn into weeks, months and even years.

I’ve know people whose lives basically cannonballed off the high board right into the septic tank.

Anything that could go wrong… did.

From their health to their employment to their financial situation…the wheels shimmied, shook and wobbled until they all fell off, leaving them absolutely STUCK.

Some people will sit there and wonder what they did to deserve it.

Some will say “Woe is me!” and do nothing to fix it, wallowing in self-pity.

Some will look at the wreckage, give it the finger, then stick out a thumb for the next leg of their journey.

These are my favorite people.

Can I blame the other two types?

No, because I’ve probably done it too.

What makes the thumb-people different?

They know the journey is not over until THEY say it is!

They know what got them to where they are right now, and they want to go further.

Their rescue could come in the shape of a book, a recording, a speaker, a friend or even a caring stranger!

How are the wheels on YOUR bus these days?

I had a wheel that was causing me trouble recently. I was stuck on an important step as part of a very important project.

At exactly the right time, a person passed through my life with the skill set needed to make a difference.

As it turns out, she’d heard me speak a few years ago at a time when part of her life was stuck on the side of the road.

I’d offered her a ride, just because she was in the audience…and she took it and intentionally drove her life to a better situation.

Who will YOU see on your road this week?

Whether your wheels are humming smoothly down the highway, or you’re sitting on the side of the road on busted rims, you still have an opportunity to get where you want to go.

Will you?
