If You’re Naked, Maybe the Sharks Will Leave You Alone?

Last week was Shark Week…and Nude Recreation Week.

I’m not sure what they have in common, but I thought it made for interesting timing.

I enjoyed the Discovery Channel’s specials. Those people are brave!

I didn’t spend any time watching the Naked Olympics or anything like that…but those people are brave too.

All too often, one of the tell-tale signs of a shark attack is a pile of unclaimed clothing still sitting on the beach at the end of the day.

Not sure how that would work on a nude beach.

Anyway, back to bravery.

People who swim with sharks most definitely know the danger of being attacked by a killing machine that only knows it needs to kill and eat to survive.

Naked people face an enemy which attacks from closer to home…other people.

So much of our society is ready, at any given moment, to attack each other with insults, ridicule, mocking, size-shaming, lifestyle intolerance, etc…as though THEIR sole mission is to attack and savage others.

Years ago, I was never brave enough to be naked in front of the world. I hid beneath too many layers.

I have, however, surfed in an area which occasionally has a shark sighting. Had one shown up the say I was learning, you most certainly would have seen bubbles coming out the back of my wetsuit!!

As a speaker, I share my life’s story in a pretty naked way.

Was it easy at first?

No way.

I was always worried about who was going to circle around and rip into me with sharp teeth.

However, I no longer hide the blemishes of my past, instead sharing every decision I made, for better or for worse, which got me this far.

Being YOURSELF is brave.

How about you?

Do you let the world see you for who you really are, or do you hide behind too many layers of protection?

If the ocean is where you really wish to be, do you swim in the potentially dangerous waters of life, risking an altercation with sharks in your personal or business lives?

Sometimes we have to let it all hang out and just dive in.

Whether you’re braving the waves to enjoy a day of surfing and boogie-boarding, or risking a sand-storm of skin-removal by playing nude volleyball, you’re brave.

I just wanted you to know that.

Go ahead, shed a layer or two this week…let the sun shine on your awesomeness and let the world see the real you.

You’re beautiful, just the way you are.

And when they see you are strong enough, and refuse to be a victim…the sharks might just swim elsewhere and leave you alone.
